How does it work?

Drop your photo: it opens in the editor with the Crop tool set to 1:1. Draw the frame: it stays square, and you place it on the part of the photo you want to keep.

Adjust the frame by dragging it, or type its exact width and height in the bar that appears below the image. Click the check mark to confirm: the document takes the size of the frame. Finally, click Export to choose the format (PNG, JPG or WebP) and the final size.

A profile picture from a portrait

A 1080 × 1350 pixel portrait: the largest possible square is 1080 × 1080. That leaves 270 pixels to remove, for example 70 at the top and 200 at the bottom to keep the face centered.

An 800 × 800 product thumbnail

A 4032 × 3024 pixel photo: the largest square is 3024 × 3024. Confirm, then export at 800 pixels wide: the thumbnail is 800 × 800 and weighs around a hundred KB as JPG at quality 85.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a square photo be for social media?
1080 × 1080 pixels is the standard size for a square post on Instagram or Facebook. For a profile picture, 400 × 400 pixels is enough; export larger if you want to reuse it elsewhere.
Can I keep the whole image without cutting it?
Cropping cuts the image. To keep everything, create a document with the right proportions (File › New document offers square, portrait and story sizes), open your photo in it as a layer and scale it down: the edges stay transparent or take the background color you chose.
Does the exported image have a watermark?
No. The exported file contains no logo or watermark, and the tool is free, with no sign-up.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are opened, edited and encoded in your browser, on your device. No image, file name or layer text is uploaded: you can even go offline once the page has loaded. Closing the tab erases your work in progress.
